Contacting the police

Did something bad happen to you? Have you been a victim of violence, for example? Or did someone steal from you? You can report that to the police. You ask the police to investigate. This is how to do that:

• Phone 0900-8844. Someone from the police can tell you what to do
• You can also go to your local police station
• You don’t have to say you’re a sex worker. What if you do say it? The police have to treat you the same as any other person
• Are the police not helping you right because you are a sex worker? Our Complaints Desk may be able to help you
• Some large cities, for example Amsterdam, have a special police unit for sex workers. These police officers are specially trained to not have presumptions towards sex workers. You can ask for their contact when you call the general phone number (0900-8844)

Are you working without a permit? If so, you can also file a complaint. The police are not allowed to fine you. What if they fine you? Report that to our Reporting and Advice Point
