Most workplaces are only for women. Are you a man? Then it is usually only possible to work as an independant escort

You can do sex work in many different ways. These are the main ways:

Window brothels

In a window brothel, you are in a window. That makes it easy to make contact with clients. You work independently. In other words, you don’t have a boss. You rent a workplace from a window brothel landlord. The landlord takes care of the permit.

Escort agency

If you work for an escort agency, the agency arranges appointments with clients for you. You go to your clients, in a hotel for example. The escort agency takes care of the permit.

Independent Escort

As an independent escort, you arrange your clients yourself. You go to your clients, in a hotel for example. You usually you need a permit. You have to take care of that yourself.

Receiving clients at home

Are you a sex worker who works from home? You arrange your clients yourself. Clients come to your home for the appointment. You usually need a permit to work from home. You have to take care of that yourself.

Streetwalkers’ District

In the streetwalkers’ district, you are outside. You make contact with clients who drive by in their car. You ride together to a safe parking lot to have sex. There are streetwalkers’ districts in Arnhem and Nijmegen. You usually need a permit in the form of a pass. You have to take care of that yourself

Sex Club

Do you work in a sex club? Then the clients come to you. You meet them in the bar. The club must have a permit so you can do your work. You don’t have to arrange that yourself. There are no sex clubs where men work.

Private Home

Do you work in a private home? Then clients come to you. You meet them there. The private home must have a permit so you can work. You don’t have to arrange that yourself.

Massage Parlor

In some massage parlors, you also have sex with clients for money. That is sex work. In a massage parlor, clients come to you. You meet them there. The massage parlor must have a permit for sex work. You don’t have to arrange that yourself.

Online sex work

More and more people are engaging in online sex work. For example, making porn videos or live camming.

Other workplaces

Sex work happens in more places than the ones mentioned above. It is not always legal or safe at those places. For example:

From a hotel room: you rent a hotel room and receive clients there. That is prohibited in the Netherlands
At a couples’ club: are there not enough women going to a couples’ club? If so, the club owner can hire you to have sex with the guests
Gangbang: a sex party where a group of clients have sex with one or more sex workers
Sex cinema: you can meet clients in some sex cinemas. That usually doesn’t pay well
Bar: you meet your clients in a bar or café. That is prohibited in the Netherlands. Does the bar have a sex work permit? Then it is allowed

Think about what kind of sex work you want to do
Think about which city or area you want to work in
Search the Internet to find local workplaces where you can do the kind of work you want. For example “window brothel Amsterdam”, “escort agency The Hague” or “private home Groningen”
Have you found a number of places where you would like to work? Apply via their website

You have applied for jobs and go to check out a number of locations. Bear this in mind:

How do you feel at this location? Being a little nervous is not a bad thing, but do you feel unsafe? Go work somewhere else
Does the workplace have a permit from the municipality? Ask during the interview
Do you receive good information during the interview regarding sex work and safe sex? That is a good sign. Didn’t you get that information? Ask about it
Is it clear what the prices are and what share of that are you allowed to keep? That is also a good sign. Is this not clear? Ask about it
At some workplaces, you pay rent for a room, for example, or the towels. Make sure you ask what the costs are
Ask what services are included in the standard package for this workplace. Oral sex and fucking, for example. Or just jerking someone off. Sometimes, this includes kissing and sometimes clients pay extra for that. Are there things in the standard package that you don’t want to do? Then you should look for another place to work
Are there other sex workers present during your interview? Have a chat with them. That way, you get more information
Are there emergency exits? Is there an alarm button? That is important. Especially in a window brothel, private home, sex club and massage parlor
