A healthy anus

  • It is important to keep your anus and intestines healthy
  • That way you take good care of your body
  • Sex can also feel more pleasurable
  • If you don’t do this, you may develop symptoms
  • You are also more likely to get an STI
  • Do not wash your anus/intestines with soap. Preferably use only water

Cleaning

  • When having anal sex, poop can sometimes come out.
  • Do you clean your butt with water first? Then that usually doesn't happen.
  • Cleaning your butt is called “anal douching.”
  • Cleaning your butt isn't always necessary.

How do you clean the inside of your ass?

There are two ways to clean the inside of your ass:

  • With a douche. You attach this to your shower hose
  • With a hand pump

You can buy these online or in a sex shop.

Only use water, never anything else such as soap. Your intestines cannot tolerate this. If you do, you may get a stomach ache and you are more likely to contract an STI.

Do not share the items you use to clean out your rear with others. Do you want to share them anyway? Then clean them thoroughly first. Read more about how to clean your supplies.

Would you like to see a video explaining how to give yourself an anal douche? Note: the video is uncensored. You will see a naked man. It is spoken in German, with English subtitles. You can see it here on xHamster.

When do you not need to rinse your ass?

By rinsing the inside of your ass, you are (almost) certain that there are no more fecal residues (poop) left in it. You may find that a pleasant idea. But it is not always necessary. You do not need to rinse:

  • If you don't feel like you have to poop. The end of your intestine is usually empty then.
  • If the penis of the person you are having sex with is not very large. Or if the dildo you are going to use is not that big. Usually it will not go where your poop is.
  • If you usually poop at the same time and you have already gone.

Symptoms

It is possible to get problems in your ass after anal sex. For example blood from your anus. Or itching around your anus.

These problems are usually caused by a tear in your anus or by hemorrhoids. But you can also have an STI.

Rinse your anus/intestines correctly. And don't do this too often. Read more under the heading 'Keeping clean' below.

Symptoms? Take an STI test

Do you have any complaints in or around your anus? You could also have an STD. Get an STD test from the GGD or your family doctor. Then you will know for sure if you have an STI. And you will receive medication if necessary.

How do I make an appointment?

Increased risk of STIs?

Having anal sex makes it easier to get an STI. You have a slightly higher chance of getting an STIand other symptoms if you get a penis in your ass. If you stick your penis in someone else's ass, you have a slightly lower chance of getting an STI. But you still have a chance.

Are you using a dildo or strap-on? It is important to clean them thoroughly, especially after using them on someone, before using them on yourself or someone else. This will prevent you from passing on an STI. Does the dildo look clean? You cannot see an STI without a microscope, so you should still clean it thoroughly first.

For extra protection, it is a good idea to put a condom on the dildo. But always wash your dildo properly afterwards too!

Read here how to properly clean a dildo.

Symptoms? Take an STI test.

Do you think you may have an STI? Or has someone warned you? Take an STD test at the GGD or your family doctor. Then you will know for sure if you have an STI. And you will receive medication if necessary.

Preventing STIs

  • Get an STI test 2 to 4 times a year. That way you will know if you have an STI and you can get medication. Then you will not get sick and you will not be able to give the STI to others. Read more about STIs here
  • Use a condom. Read which condoms are safe
  • Do not use a condom for longer than 15 minutes. Then throw it away and get a new one.
  • Use lubricant. This will reduce the risk of anal tears. Read more about lubricant
  • Try to relax as much as possible when you have sex
  • Douche correctly and not too often. Read more about douching here
