- You agree with your client where and when you meet, exactly what you will be doing and how much the client pays for that
- You usually go to the client. In a hotel for example, or the client’s home
- You ask the client to pay when the appointment starts. You put the money in a safe place
- Set an alarm on your phone to let you know when the appointment is over. That way, you won’t have to keep checking the time
- Does the client want you to stay longer? Agree on the amount the client pays for that
- Does the client want additional services? In that case, the client will pay extra for that. Additional services include everything that you didn’t agree about in advance

Rules

- You have to be registered with the Chamber of Commerce (KvK) as a self-employed person (zzp’er)
- You have a residency permit if you are not from the Netherlands
- You are 18 or older. Please note: In some municipalities, you have to be at least 21
- You need an escort permit from the municipality where your company is registered

Disadvantages of working as an independent escort
- In many municipalities, it is hard to get a permit
- You have to find your own clients
- You are responsible for your own safety
- You usually work alone
- Sometimes, you won’t have any appointments for a few weeks. In other words, you don’t make any money
- You have to do your own bookkeeping
- Sometimes, you have to travel a long way for an appointment
Safety
Working as an independent escort involves risks. Especially because you are alone in a room with the client.

Protect your safety:
- Make sure someone knows where you are and who you’re with. Tell that person what time you will phone them. What if you don’t call? That person can call you. What if you don’t answer the phone? That person can call the police if you don’t answer
- Trust your own instincts. Do not go into a client’ location if you have a bad feeling

The work bag
The escort bag is your work bag: it contains the things you need for your work. Use a bag with pockets, so you won’t have to dig around in the bag.
Never leave your bag alone in the room with your client, especially not if it contains personal items such as your appointment book or your phone! Take the bag with you if you go to the toilet or bathroom.
